What is Bike/Bicycle Spokane?

Hi, my name is Anthony Hardwick. I started Bike Spokane because I saw the need for a central gathering point for information about Spokane's bicycle evolution.

Right now is an exciting time in Spokane and the Inland Northwest region for people and their bicycles. From where I sit, it appears that people in the region are beginning to see the humble bicycle as more than form of exercise and recreation. The bicycle is becoming a tool for accomplishing tasks in daily life, again.

It is impossible for our present generations to remember this but briefly in between the horse and the car the United States was awash in people using bicycles to get around and do things in their lives. People used bikes to go to the store, deliver things to each other, get to work, etc. In fact some historians point out that it was the wide spread use of the bicycle in the United States that prompted local governments to pave roads, your welcome auto industry.

Today, for a myriad of reasons the bicycle is seeing a resurgence in popularity all across the country, particularly in Spokane. More people are throwing legs over more bicycles prompting city, county, and regional officials to start thinking about infrastructure that would those people use their bicycles safely. As those projects develop, go through construction, and are eventually opened to the citizenry I want to be here to document the process. From committee to drafts to smiling cyclist's faces, I'll be there every bit of it.

Thank you for checking out the site, I can't wait to get this journey started.

*Edit* I started bikespokane.org on Google Sites, but it was super clunky. So I attempted to transfer the site to Weebly. However, that transfer was a nightmare. So, I created bicyclespokane.org and made bikespokane.org a redirect. Whichever way you got here, I'm glad you are here! Let's get riding. ~A

Lover of bicycles, fancy food/coffee, and family, not necessarily in that order.
